Management
psychology is a specialized field of practice within
professional psychology. It focuses on the behavioral
variables that most affect the dynamics of motivation,
performance and development of managers and the people
they lead. Consultations begin with an in-depth
assessment of the situation and challenges facing
management, as well as the human dynamics – individual,
group and organizational – that may help or hinder one’s
efforts to effectively and appropriately address
these challenges.
While effectiveness
pertains most directly to the achievement of strategic
business outcomes, appropriateness bears most on
how our conduct in achieving such outcomes comports with
the values and norms to which we aspire. It is our
philosophy that both the strategic and normative aspects
of business leadership are critical to organizational
health, performance, and sustainability. This is a more
holistic approach to development, which the tough-minded
pragmatist might initially question, but which decades
of research and experience demonstrate separates the
great from the good.
